“If it’s not understandable and it’s not clear, it won’t work.”
That principle has guided Magaly Iraheta’s career from her early days teaching students how to code to her current work as a Senior Oracle APEX consultant and Oracle ACE Associate. Whether she’s building enterprise applications, contributing to the APEX community, or speaking at conferences, clarity remains at the center of how she approaches development.
Originally from El Salvador, Magaly began her university studies in chemical engineering before discovering programming through coursework in Java and C#. When she later moved to the United States, she chose to change her major to computer science — a decision that set the course for her career. Today, she works with Traust clients across industries, bringing technical depth, consulting experience, and a consistent focus on building solutions that are both powerful and understandable.
Finding Her Core in Oracle APEX
Magaly’s early development experience included React, JavaScript, and front-end technologies. When she began consulting in Oracle technologies, she was introduced to Oracle APEX and quickly saw how it aligned with the way she already thought about building software. Even with her background in JavaScript frameworks, she appreciated that APEX could accomplish many of the same outcomes “in half the time.”
She was particularly drawn to the balance APEX offers between speed and structure. As she explains, “APEX is very powerful, but you can always add a bit more without making it overly complicated or complex — and still make it maintainable in the future.” That emphasis on maintainability continues to guide her development work.
From Teaching to Consulting
Before fully transitioning into consulting, Magaly worked as a director at a coding academy, where she taught students JavaScript and CSS while building video games. Teaching required her to explain complex logic in practical ways and to help students understand the structure behind what they were building.
She often notes that the mathematical logic behind video game development made enterprise calculations “quite easy” by comparison. While the subject matter changed, the underlying thinking did not. That experience continues to influence how she designs applications and works through technical challenges.
Over the years, she has applied those skills as a consultant across healthcare, defense, and financial services, learning to adapt technical solutions to different business environments. Each industry has required her to learn new business processes and adapt her technical solutions accordingly. She values that variety and the opportunity to work in different domains.
Contributing to the APEX Community
In addition to her client work, Magaly creates technical content through her website and YouTube channel, The Coder Gal. What began as a way to document solutions and share knowledge gradually became a consistent part of her professional life.
She believes strongly in making practical knowledge accessible, especially for developers who are early in their careers. “Blogs and tutorials are so important for juniors,” she says. “If they just tell you to learn APEX, where do you start? There’s so much going on.” For her, sharing knowledge is part of being a responsible member of the development community. “If I learn a trick, this needs to be shared so someone else can come and do the trick as well.”
Her commitment to the Oracle community led to her nomination as an Oracle ACE Associate. Since becoming an ACE, she has spoken at conferences in the UK and is scheduled to present at APEX Connect in Germany this year. She speaks about the APEX ecosystem with appreciation, noting that “the community builds the developers.” That spirit of collaboration continues to shape her involvement in events and online forums.
Expanding into Cloud and AI
While Oracle APEX development remains her primary focus, Magaly is also expanding her expertise into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure architecture and AI integration within the Oracle ecosystem. She is interested in understanding how these technologies can support application development in practical ways.
“I’m very intrigued over how far you can take AI and involve it in development,” she explains, while also emphasizing the importance of review and judgment. In her view, “AI is a great tool — using it carefully, not trusting it 100% without looking through it — but it saves so much time.” Her goal this year is to continue building knowledge in cloud architecture and to create educational content that helps other developers navigate those integrations.
Life in Leeds (and Beyond)
Magaly is currently based in Leeds in the United Kingdom, with family spread across Minnesota, Texas, and El Salvador. Travel is an important part of staying connected, and she enjoys the process as much as the destination. Rome stands out as a favorite trip so far, and Japan is high on her list for the future. Now that she’s in the UK, she’s also looking forward to exploring more of Europe on shorter trips.
Her daily routine reflects the same consistency she brings to her work. She starts her mornings at the gym six days a week, combining weightlifting with cycling classes. In the evenings, she enjoys cooking and experimenting with new recipes. “It is great to cook. It’s such a relaxing time,” she says, often putting on a series in the background while she works in the kitchen. Baking, she admits with a smile, “is not going quite as well.”
She also maintains her early interest in video games and design through anime, manga, and gaming. The interests that first drew her to development — creativity, design, and logic — still show up in how she spends her time outside of work.
Looking Ahead at Traust
Magaly continues to build on her foundation in Oracle APEX while expanding her work in cloud architecture and AI integration. She plans to deepen her exploration of OCI and to create more educational content that helps developers understand how APEX fits into a broader Oracle ecosystem. Teaching and sharing remain central to how she thinks about growth — not just her own, but the growth of the community around her.
In her work with Traust, Magaly brings with her a steady development philosophy, international experience, and an active voice in the APEX community. Her path from classroom instructor to consultant to Oracle ACE reflects a consistent pattern: learn deeply, build clearly, and share what you discover along the way.
We’re glad to welcome Magaly Iraheta to the team and look forward to the work ahead.
